The harbour of Aberystwyth opened a marina in 1995.The marina, named Y Lanfa, has fully serviced pontoon berths for 100 vessels and is easily accessible, two hours either side of high water. Facilities also include an on-site pub and restaurant.
When approaching the marina from the north, be aware of the Castle Rocks off the northern breakwater before entering the narrow entrance. Entering during strong onshore winds is not recommended. Inside the harbour confines there is good shelter at the Town Quay mooring pontoon.
There are many small harbours neighbouring Aberystwyth including Aberaeron, Barmouth, Cardigan and Porthmadog, all within easy reach, as are the marinas at Pwllheli, Caernarfon, Milford Haven and Neyland. There is also the adventure of marinas on the Irish east coast, including Arklow, a day's sail away.

Visit Aberystwyth

A popular picturesque harbour and seaside resort, on the mid-west Welsh coastline, it is home to the University of Wales and the National Library. The town is dominated by an Iron-Age fortification called Pen Dinas when viewed from the south and is nestled between hills and beaches and overlooks Cardigan Bay. The harbour at Aberystwyth was once one of the busiest in Wales and is fed by the rivers Ystwyth and Rheidol, which is the steepest river in Britain.
The town's vibrancy is owed somewhat to its student population, ensuring it remains so throughout the year and not just during summertime. The town centre has numerous cafés, bars, and restaurants.
For fresh sea air the seafront hosts tall Victorian and Edwardian buildings. In front the spacious promenade has wonderful views of the hills and mountains. For more spectacular views, the Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway (longest electric cliff railway in Britain) climbs Constitution Hill which reveals an amazing panorama at the summit. On a clear day views extend to the Preseli Hills, south in Pembrokeshire, the expanse of Cardigan Bay opens to the west and the mountains of Snowdonia to the North. There is a café at the summit and the famous Camera Obscura with spectacular views in all directions.
