Arklow marina is located on the North Quay just upstream of the commercial quays and is enclosed in an inner dock accommodating 42 berths. The facility is very sheltered, in addition further berths can be found from the marina entrance on pontoons running parallel to the quay providing 30 berths on the river Avoca. The marina also incorporates luxurious apartments that overlook the river.
During NE to SE winds the entrance can become difficult where the sea breaks over the bar.The inner basin is marked by a large red light beacon - from the light vessel station on the south end of the Arklow Banks.Approaching the marina basin or pontoons when you pass the entrance to the fishing harbour on the south side it is best to keep between the middle of the river and the north bank. Note that another harbour due south at Arklow Rock serves a quarry for commercial users only.

Visit Arklow

The east coast town boasts a strong maritime heritage that stems from early times when minerals were exported by sea from the River Avoca which flows gently down from the Wicklow Mountains. In the 19th century the town had one of the largest fishing fleets based on the Irish Sea and a shipyard noted for building timber boats such as Francis Chichester's Gypsy Moth III and the TSV Asgard II.
The town is within easy walking distance across the bridge that leads directly onto the main street where shops, several restaurants, pubs and cinema are located. There are two leisure sport complexes on the outskirts.
Further upstream is the particularly scenic Vale Of Avoca where golf clubs, horse riding centres and hotels can be found in the valley and craft shops and local facilities in the village of Avoca. Other attractions include the famous 'Meetings of the Waters' of Thomas Moore fame which is close by.The vale is the gateway to the rest of Co Wicklow, known as the 'Garden of Ireland', and Glendalough National Park.
