Carlingford Marina

Marina information

number of berths280 + 30V

The marina is located 1 km south of Carlingford on the west side of the lough and is four miles from the entrance at Haulbowline Light House. The marina has been in existence since the early 1990's and the marina club-house incorporates an on-site restaurant with wonderful views across the lough. It is also an ideal base for the cruising routes of the Irish Sea.The Isle of Man is just 60- miles away. Also within a day's sail are Howth, Strangford Lough, and Ardglass.
Commercial shipping at Greenore and Warrenpoint has facilitated a deep water shipping channel allowing access to the marina at all states of the tide. However there is a small tide running across the marina entrance, it is not strong. The marina entrance is protected by a sunken barge on the south side, the approach should be taken at 90 degrees and approach from the north to avoid the Carlingford Bank.

Visit Carlingford

An old medieval town steeped in history, Carlingford is watched over by St. Johns Castle. Located on the Cooley Peninsula, one of the most picturesque inlets on the east coast of Ireland, the 'Fjord of Carlinn' as the Vikings called it is eight-miles long and bordered by the magical Cooley Mountains to the south and the famous Mourne Mountains to the north.
The Norsemen, Europe's most adventurous seamen, built a castle around 1200.The settlement flourished particularly during the 13th-18th centuries. It soon became renowned for herrings and oysters. Carlingford has a strong sense of history and this is expressed culturally with numerous craft shops in both Celtic and contemporary crafts. The area is also well known for its outdoor pursuits, both on and off the water in adventure activities and is a good place for hill-walking.
The entrance to Carlingford Lough is guarded by the Block House, the Haulbowline Lighthouse and Green Castle on the north shore. As you move up the lough you pass Greenore Point and harbour. At the far end of the lough is the Newry Canal.
