The marina was opened in 2001 and has a total of 70 pontoon berths. The marina is particularly sheltered and secure where craft moor either side of a central pontoon which is located in an inner harbour that operates a sill water retention system. This system allows access to and from the harbour approximately + or -2.5 hrs at high water in Douglas. Note that a lifting road bridge is located between the inner and outer harbours. The harbour approaches are exposed during NE gales causing very heavy seas to run.
Douglas in the main port for the island and is also used for commercial shipping including fast-ferries which dock in the outer harbour.A white diamond on the wall of the King Edward Pier marks the existence of a concrete revetment, leading to the cill entrance of the inner harbour - this is the limit beyond which the harbour will dry.
The capital of an island in the centre of the north Irish Sea, it is uniquely distinct in its culture, character and independence within the British Isles. Douglas on the south-eastern corner of the island is a very popular seaside resort boasting a long sweeping spacious promenade overlooking Douglas Bay.Victorian hotels, revamped theatres and the famous Horse Tram form some of the amenities that line the waterfront. The town's service and many facilities are located off the promenade and offer the tourist a mix of the traditional and modern to explore.
