The Dublin City Mooring pontoon, located on the north quays on the River Liffey, is directly in the heart of the Irish capital. Alongside the mooring is the rejuvenated 'Docklands' area which offers a host of restaurants and is home to the financial quarter - the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) which surrounds former dock basins. Nearby, the splendid Custom House and the attractions of the city centre are all within easy walking distances.
The benefits of the city mooring facility are immediate, only 10 km from the airport and in one of Europe's most exciting capitals. In addition the Dublin Docklands Development Authority (DDDA) which operates the moorings, promotes summertime events and festivals on the river.
The port of Dublin is very busy with commercial shipping traffic, particularly during 0600-1000hrs and 1800-2200hrs. The approaches in Dublin Bay require vessels to obey the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) and to be aware of fast ferry craft.Within the channel of the port, dock basins lead off and so caution should be exercised. For clearance in and out of the port, contact the Dublin Port Radio.
Note that the marina has to be accessed via the East-Link toll lift-bridge which leads into the main section of the River Liffey where the Dublin City Moorings are located. A new pedestrian swing bridge lies upriver, just beyond to the west of the mooring and is where the River Liffey sightseeing river boat 'Strumpet City' docks.
The capital of Ireland, located midway along the east coast with its large and embracing bay and the backdrop of the Dublin Mountains, is a thriving vibrant city known for its legendary welcome. The 'Fair City', epitomised in sweet Molly Malone's 'Cockles and Mussels', is renowned for its numerous literary figures. On June 16 Dubliners celebrate 'Bloomsday', the day on which James Joyce's literary masterpiece 'Ulysses' is set throughout the capital. The city retains some splendid examples of Georgian streets and squares and also an emerging modern Dublin is rapidly reflected in a cosmopolitan nature. The city centre's main thoroughfares are O'Connell Street,Westmoreland Street and Dame Street. Explore the city's museums, art galleries and the famous grounds of Trinity College. Nearby this centre of academia are Grafton Street, the city's premier shopping street, and the 'cultural quarter' of Temple Bar.This is area of cobbled streets brimming with art galleries, specialist shops, art-house cinema, pubs, restaurants and night clubs.
