The marina is to be found on the east side of Great Island which is the largest and most central of three islands in Cork harbour. The marina is somewhat remote, however it is in a most tranquil setting. Facilities at the pontoon berth marina are limited with the exception of a local pub in Marlogue. Cobh is the nearest town which is five miles west and offers many amenities and attractions.
The marina is secluded and tucked away up East Passage to the east of Cobh and north of Gold Point. Facilities are adequate; note that electricity is free and the local pub at Marlogue has good food.
The nearby town of Cobh clings along the water's edge and is bordered by steep hillsides. The charming town has a combination of history and architecture. St. Colman's Cathedral is a dominant landmark towering above the town with views from the ramparts of Cork Harbour, one of the largest enclosed natural harbours in the world.
The seaside town has the ambiance of the Victorian by-gone era that can be seen in colourful buildings and displayed in the promenade park. The rich maritime heritage of trans-Atlantic liners calling to Cobh (formerly Queenstown) then a port of call for the Titanic, the sinking of the Lusitania off the Old Head of Kinsale and mass emigration during the Irish famine, is dramatically displayed in the town's heritage centre.
Great Island is connected to the mainland by road-bridge to the north and connects onto the main road from the east to Cork city, a railway service runs from Cobh, and a car ferry service operates on the west side linking the other side of Cork Harbour.
