Located on the River Wyre, Fleetwood Marina is approached along the well lit buoyed river channel.Take caution to merchant shipping activity in the vicinity of the river berths where vessels swing on arrival and departure.A revolving yellow light is displayed about 18m above the quay level to indicate that a large vessel is using the ro-ro berth.
The marina affords good shelter in an enclosed dock that offers 300-fully serviced berths in what is historically a port well known for fishing. The Wyre Dock dating to 1835 now accommodates the marina pontoons installed in 1989. The marina village at Merchants Quay was built in 1994 and this was further complemented by the opening of a retail and leisure park in 1995. Fleetwood Harbour Village Marina is on the door step of the extensive and beautiful surroundings of Morecambe Bay.
This traditional bustling seaside resort town on the north-west coast of England developed as a port in 1835 when Sir Peter Hesketh- Fleetwood obtained approval for improving the harbour. Under an act of parliament the railway from Preston to Fleetwood was built to serve the harbour. Take a tram for a trip into the town and enjoy this haven for shoppers, with its traditional market, busy streets and the discounted shopping village at Freeport.
You can have fun on the pier or walk along the front to the Marine Gardens or from the esplanade watch Fleetwood's nautical history mirrored to the present day with daily shipping movements which can be monitored at very close quarters. The river channel of the Wyre passes opposite the seafront road. The esplanade also boasts its own distinctive and unique electric trams that go to and fro.
Further south is Blackpool with its beach and all its attractions and activities for all ages.A seamless wall of amusement arcades and places to eat are located on the 'Golden Mile', the stretch of road between the unmistakable landmark of Blackpool Tower in the north to the Pleasure Beach in the south
