The marina, which is located in the south-west corner of the harbour, was opened in 2001. Holyhead, being a harbour of refuge, may be entered in all weather conditions and at all states of the tide. Seas decrease within Holyhead Bay except in strong to gale force E-NE winds. The marina breakwaters are designed to provide complete protection from this direction.
Cruising opportunities abound from one of the most centrally positioned marinas in the Irish Sea.The Isle of Anglesey offers safe sailing waters and stunning views over Snowdonia, whilst the Isle of Man and Ireland are only a day's sail away.
Holyhead is a major ferryport for Dublin, so conventional and fastferries ply the waters of Holyhead Bay on a regular basis. Remember that power does not give way to sail - especially in the Traffic Separation Zone which spans the harbour entrance and as far as the Skerries to the north. When entering the harbour, make for the breakwater head (marked by a 21m high white tower with black band), allowing a half cable offing for the foundations. Maintain this offing from the breakwater, taking particular note of the rocks by the breakwater knuckle, until the Marina opens ahead.

Visit Holyhead

The town is intrinsically tied to the sea with its enormous breakwater stretching out from Holyhead Mountain and the famous South Stack Lighthouse. Holyhead or in Welsh, St. Cybi, has long and historical ties with its maritime heritage. There is a maritime museum housed in the old lifeboat stationhouse which is beside the pebble beach that looks out into the harbour.
The town centre offers a number of places to eat, a theatre and a cinema. There are a range of places to visit and Holyhead is often used as an overnight stop on the way to, or from, holidaying in Ireland or as a centre for touring the island of Anglesey itself.Around Holyhead there is excellent fishing and golfing and throughout Anglesey there are many walks and fine beaches.
The port has excellent ferry connections to and from Ireland (Dublin City and Dun Laoghaire) and is easily reached on the A55 dual carriageway link to the motorway network, whilst Holyhead railway station serves Inter-City rail routes with destinations throughout north Wales, the north-east of England and London.
