Woodbridge is an attractive riverside town close to the Suffolk coast and situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
It was built on the banks of the river Deben and has a history of shipbuilding, rope making and sail making. Edward III in the 14th century and Sir Francis Drake in the 16th century used Woodbridge built ships. These days the river is silted up and can only be used by pleasure craft.
However, the riverside walks are excellent, and birdlife is wide and varied. There are pleasure trips from Woodbridge down the Deben and it is a very relaxing way to travel.
