Visit Middelharnis

Middelharnis is located on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee, next to the ‘Haringvliet’. The location of Middelharnis and Sommeldijk make these two villages into a unique ‘twin village’. The characters of both villages are different. One was originally a fishing village while the other has an agrarian history.

Rien Poortvliet Museum Drawings that were used for advertorials in the 1970s and 1980s. The museum is housed in the Middelharnis town hall.

Expo Haringvliet Following the disastrous floods of 1953, the decision was taken to close off the Haringvliet from the North Sea by means of a sluice complex. The complex is one kilometre long and was completed in 1970.
